Wedding at The Green, Cornwall

Walking on Sunshine

It all began on the Greek island of Rhodes for Michelle and Barry, who were both on holiday with friends during the university break when they met. The holiday romance led to a proposal over a romantic dinner in Hong Kong, where Michelle grew up. "Barry gave me a Prada purse as a gift and hidden in the coin pocket was the engagement ring!" she recalls.

The Green provided the perfect setting for their wedding, which Michelle describes as "shabby chic with an elegant twist." Featuring pastel pinks, whites and greenery with lots of candles, the sweet ambience was set for a sun-drenched summer's wedding.

Michelle donned a timelessly elegant gown and accessorised with a pink bloom in her hair, which echoed the cluster of pink and white flowers in her bouquet. The soprano vocals of Eleanor Chapman lent a stirring ambience to the church ceremony; emerging to a shower of confetti and sunshine as newly-weds, Michelle and Barry were whisked to The Green in a sleek Jaguar.

Gypsy swing band Chez La Vie jazzed up the drinks reception, which saw guests tucking into canapes such as oysters, mini fish and chips, mini roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and Brie and cranberry blinis.

"We were lucky to get married on one of the hottest days of the year, which made the day so perfect, being able to enjoy the freshly shucked oysters and champagne on the lawn and the beautiful views of Bodmin Moor at The Green," reminisces Michelle.

Guests continued to feast on those views as they took their seats in the elegantly styled marquee for the sumptuous three-course wedding breakfast, comprising seared scallops in a chorizo broth and duck breast on a bed of spinach and red onion. Tiramisu was served to everyone but the bride, who enjoyed her very own personal pudding of profiteroles.

With the speeches also served, the party commenced courtesy of eight-piece live band The Jay Jays, who delivered an uptempo set of rock 'n' roll numbers followed by DJ Dean Woods.

"The music was so important to us and, from the soprano in the church to the gypsy swing band on the lawn and the amazing rock 'n' roll band in the evening, all the music made the day extra special," reflects Michelle.

Recalling the details of day, the couple fondly pinpoint their favourite moments. "Walking into the marquee as man and wife to 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars", was Michelle's highlight, while Barry cites another standout moment: "when my bride walked down the aisle! Also, the best men's speeches - one of which was a hilarious and touching poem."

Michelle has plenty of advice for brides and grooms-to-be. "Hire a stylist to help execute your design and to take a huge amount of stress out of the actual day." And planning makes perfect: "Plan the day in a huge amount of detail in the weeks and months before so you can chill out on the day."
