Wedding at The Barn at South Milton

Truly Madly Deeply

Danielle and Adam got married with a homespun day at The Barn at South Milton

A couple of months after first meeting, Danielle and Adam got together on Valentine's Day during a university trip to New York. In similarly romantic style, Adam popped the question on Danielle's birthday during a walk in the countryside near his parents' house. "After apologising for not getting me much for my birthday, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him," reflects Danielle.

With their glorious views and seaside locations, Wembury Church and The Barn at South Milton proved the perfect, scenic venues for their rustic themed wedding. Shades of blue carried through the details, from the bridesmaid dresses to the wild, rustic flower arrangements.

Armed with a very hands-on groom, along with family and friends, the day was very much homespun affair. "Most things were homemade which made the day so personal to us," comments Danielle.

Adam created the centrepieces out of driftwood and designed and made the invites, order of service, name places, table names, table plan and bunting. Meanwhile, Danielle decorated jam jars for favours, the best man made the cake stand and Danielle's dad decorated Adam's tailcoat with flowers to echo his shirt. One of her friends even grew and arranged the flowers, as well as handcrafting the bridal party's jewellery, making for beautifully bespoke details and a wedding brimming with individual character.

With her groom making a sharp sartorial statement, Danielle donned a gorgeous Martina Liana gown, which she accessorised with delicate jewels and a bouquet of blue flowers speckled with gypsophila.

During the personal and poignant ceremony, Danielle's grandfather conducted a very special sermon. "I thought it was a beautiful sermon and one of my favourite moments of the day," she recalls.

On arrival at The Barn at South Milton, guests enjoyed canapes, bubbly and garden games on the lawn followed by a feast of barbecued steak, lamb and burgers, a fish platter and salads. In the evening, ceilidh band Piping Hot ensured everyone was up and dancing.

Reflecting on their day, Danielle is replete with advice for other couples. "We had two years to plan our wedding, which made the whole process enjoyable and almost stress-free. It meant we could spend a couple of months in full-on wedding mode and then spend a month doing very little wedding stuff. It stopped us from going insane and allowed us time to make decisions," she explains.

When it comes to the day itself, delegation is key. "I made sure that all groomsmen, bridesmaids and close family members knew the timetable for the day with instructions which meant that I stepped back, relaxed and let everyone else take care of everything," she adds. "Don't be afraid to ask people for help - those personal touches will make your day."
