A May bank holiday meeting in St Ives led to romance for Tanya and Damian. Their son Sennen was born in 2009 and, on Tanya’s birthday a year later, she was treated to a heart-melting proposal as Damian popped the question on bended knee while Sennen held the ring.
The couple fell in love with the first venue they looked at. “St Michael’s Hotel had everything we wanted – a modern image that brought the feel of being beside the sea inside the hotel, a fantastic menu and a perfect setting overlooking the beach,” says Tanya.
Crystal details and a midnight blue palette made for an opulent affair. Crystals featured in everything from the invitations to the storm lanterns on glass mirrors with scattered crystals of midnight blue and baby blue. This reflected the bridal party’s dresses: the bridesmaids donned the same sumptuous shade of midnight blue, while the flower girls and pageboys wore baby blue. A beautiful bouquet of tulips, blue delphiniums and muscari accompanied Tanya’s Maggie Sottero gown.

The celebrations commenced with a slight hitch when their vintage bus broke down before they had even left the house. Luckily some friends came to the rescue and transported the bridal party to Gwennap Church. “We arrived at the church 45 minutes late and my future husband was not surprised at all!” laughs Tanya.

After the poignant ceremony, the newly-weds boarded their repaired bus for a champagne-fuelled ride to St Michael’s Hotel. Everyone arrived to Buck’s Fizz and delicious canapés on the lawn. “This was a fantastic part of the day, with children playing and guests enjoying relaxing in the sun,” reflects Tanya.

Guests feasted on dishes such as tomato and basil soup, roast chicken supreme with prosciutto mead jus and pomme dauphinoise and glazed lemon tart with citrus compote and Cornish clotted cream.

After the speeches and the cutting of the ivory cake, which was embossed with midnight and baby blue flowers, the newly-weds headed onto the sands of Gyllyngvase Beach for photos. “The light was amazing as the sun was going down. It felt so perfect as Damian picked me up and walked into the waves,” recalls Tanya. Steve Hole Discos then provided the soundtrack to the night; the party tunes were served alongside a scrumptious Cornish buffet.

Tanya reflects fondly on the days following their beautiful beachside celebration. “We honeymooned in the Cotswolds. We enjoyed the countryside and relaxed enjoying the first few days as husband and wife.”
