Festival Flair

It was fitting that Tanya and Antony brought a fun, relaxed and colourful festival vibe to their wedding - after all, the couple first met through mutual friends at a festival back in 2009. After losing touch, they reconnected in 2010 and love soon blossomed; Antony, who serves in the Royal Navy, hatched his plans for a relaxed proposal at home while he was serving in the Falklands. "He made me a romantic meal on a date night at home and got down on one knee after finishing our dessert and popped the question," remembers Tanya.

Rumleigh Farm made the perfect backdrop for their visions of a rustic, relaxed and bright celebration. "This was the first and only place that we looked at and knew from the start that it was the place for us," comments Tanya. The palette popped with colour, from Tanya's bouquet - a vibrant medley of oranges, pinks, purples, yellows and blues - to the big top marquee bedecked with colourful paper pompoms, bunting and fairy lights. What's more, many of the guests pitched tents in the grounds overlooking views of the valley, which added to the festival mood.

Flanked by her bridesmaids and flower girl dressed in pretty shades of dusky pink and ivory, Tanya dazzled in an asymmetric gown, while Antony looked resplendent in his Royal Navy attire.

The wedding ceremony took place at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church in St. Budeaux. "It is my family's church so it was nice to get married in familiar surroundings," says Tanya; guests then gathered in the sunshine at Rumleigh Farm where mini cream teas and Pimm's awaited.

In keeping with the relaxed mood, guests helped themselves to a delicious Ploughman's feast, brimming with pork pie slices, scotch eggs, cold meats and salads, followed by wedding cake. For Tanya, this made for one of the highlights of the day: "The marquee was in such an amazing part of the grounds. It was a really hot day and the sides were up, so all the children were running around playing and guests were able to relax in the sun, sit on the grass and have a nice cold drink," she says. "All in all, it was exactly how we dreamed it would be."

Antony's aunt and uncle kick-started the evening merriment with a performance of a personal song for the newly-weds, before live band The Vibes took to the stage and guests snacked on chilli con carne and tortilla chips.

DIY bride Tanya, who handcrafted all the decorations and favours, offers some savvy money-saving advice: "To save on flowers, we used the bride's and bridesmaids' bouquets on the top table for everyone to admire. We also used a wish tree as a central feature in a smaller marquee where the evening food was served for everyone to write personal messages and comments for us on," she suggests.
