Anika and Jody met in their local nightclub. “He asked me if I’d like a drink; then he tipped me upside down to get the change out of my pockets to buy it, which made me laugh and I thought – he’s different!” recalls Anika. On Christmas Day in 2009, she had just opened her presents when Jody got down on one knee in front of her family for a surprise – and very festive – proposal.
As parents to two young sons, Oscar and Fletcher, the couple envisioned a fun celebration with plenty of entertainment for the younger guests. Hearts were a recurrent theme in the décor of the day with turquoise being the leading colour of choice. Anika’s bouquet of white orchids and lilies perfectly complemented her gorgeous Mori Lee gown, which she accessorised with dainty jewellery.
After an early and rather manic start to the day – with a bridal entourage of no less than five pageboys, five flower girls and four bridesmaids to get ready – the couple married at Gulval Church. They stopped for photographs in the June sunshine against the beautiful backdrop of Mount’s Bay en route to their marquee reception at Rosewarne Manor.

Opting for a novel twist on the traditional three-course dinner, guests enjoyed a delicious selection platter of crab cakes, chicken kebabs, lamb meatballs and cheese tarts. A traditional carvery with all the trimmings was followed by another sumptuous platter for dessert that included cheesecake, chocolate truffles, Eton mess and crème brûlée.

Entertainment was eclectic and took many crowd-pleasing forms, from the Penzance Orpheus Ladies Choir who sang during the signing of the register to a bouncy castle, surf machine and children’s entertainer who kept the children spellbound with balloon artistry and a magic show.

Anika recalls her stand-out moments: “Walking into the church and making eye contact with Jody for the first time brought back the feeling I had when we first met.” She adds, “Also, when we walked up to the altar to say our prayers, my veil got caught on a nail and got pulled off my head!”
She has some sound advice for other couples: “Have the day videoed if possible to capture all your guests on film. The day goes so fast and it’s nice to look back and see who was there.” She adds, “Also, we would have loved a live band, but we left it too late and they were all booked up. If you’re thinking of having one, get in there fast!”
