Wedding at Polhawn Fort, Cornwall

Meant To Be

Suzanne and Ben met when they both lived in London. Both Northerners born and bred, Suzanne admits: "It is kind of funny that we met down South, although it was no coincidence as our online profiles both proudly advertised our Northern roots! We met on mysinglefriend.com. One of my bridesmaids posted my profile and Ben was the second guy I met on there and we hit it off!"

Despite having no connection to the area, the couple chose Polhawn Fort as their wedding venue. "We chose it simply because it is so stunningly beautiful," says Suzanne. Having the run of the venue from Friday to Monday was a further draw and made for some extended celebrations - "until 2.30am the night before the wedding in my case!" comments Suzanne.

With Polhawn's private beach, a Cornish wedding by the sea seemed an appropriate theme, and tones of navy blue, creams and greens beautifully conveyed the look of the day.

Wowing the guests in a stunning Augusta Jones gown, Suzanne walked down the aisle to 'Moonriver', performed on the piano by musician Sharon Lewis. After two poignant, tear-inducing readings - including the famous E.E. Cummings' poem 'I Carry Your Heart', which is inscribed on the couple's rings - Sharon continued her memorable soundtrack by playing 'All Shook Up' during the signing of the register and 'You Are My Sunshine' as the ceremony drew to a close.

After a gloomy morning, the sun came out just in time for guests to enjoy champagne, canapes and more live music in the grounds of the fort. Catering company The Round Kitchen provided a sumptuous feast that included crab, prawn and salmon cocktail, pot roast lamb and sticky toffee pudding amongst other mouthwatering delights.

Cornish folk band Cahooty and an iPod playlist went down a storm in the evening, while the first dance to 'Strange Magic' by ELO was "definitely one of my favourite moments," reflects Suzanne.

"Lots of guests commented that it was one of the most emotional weddings they had been to," she continues. "The strength of feeling and emotional connection between everyone on the day was amazing." The newly weds shortly jetted off to Japan for their honeymoon.

Suzanne has some wise words for brides-to-be: "Give your bridal party as detailed a brief as possible so that they know what they are doing. Someone gave me valuable advice to make my bridesmaids work for me so I did, as my dress really did require their services!" She adds," Make sure you get some alone time together on the day - we headed down to the beach with champagne for some photographs."
