Wedding at Lynton Town Hall, Devon
Love on the North Coast
Yingwen and Qi celebrated their wedding over three perfect days in Lynton and Lynmouth The sun-stained skies and picture-perfect coastline of North Devon made a sublime backdrop for Yingwen and Qi’s beautifully intimate wedding celebration. The couple, who met as students at Cambridge University, decided on a low-key wedding celebration conducted over three days with just their parents and photographer, Gareth Williams of GRW Photography, accompanying them.
“Our parents both live in China,” explains Yingwen. “We decided to celebrate the wedding in such a simple way as it is so rare for us to spend time with them, and we wanted our parents to enjoy and savour the time with us. Travelling to Devon with them was really special.”
On the evening of their arrival in Lynton and Lynmouth, the couple and their parents headed to a local restaurant for dinner, where they met with Gareth. Finishing their meal before sunset, they ventured out to the beach to savour the beautiful scenes on the shoreline as the sun dipped below the Atlantic – a moment which stands out in Yingwen’s memory. “A real highlight for me was running to the beach and the three couples (us, my mum and dad and Qi’s mum and dad) watching the fantastic Devon sunset together. We enjoyed it a lot!” she reflects.
Waking to flawless blue skies the following morning, Yingwen slipped into a Phillipa Lepley gown – a romantic lace design accessorised with a long, lace-edged veil – while Qi donned a dapper blue Kilgour suit. Lynton Town Hall was the backdrop for their highly personal and emotional wedding ceremony which focused on the bond between the two families in a poignant and memorable way. Vows exchanged, the couple emerged from the town hall as Mr and Mrs, and hopped aboard the tram railway down to the beach and village, which was brimming with holidaymakers lapping up the sunshine.
Yingwen and Qi, along with their parents and Gareth, toasted their union with an intimate wedding breakfast – and, rather than an evening of speeches and revelry, they enjoyed some cherished family time as the sun set on a perfect Devon day.
Threatening clouds grumbled on the horizon the next morning, but it didn’t deter the newly-weds and their parents from their planned walk on the North Devon coastal path. After reaching their destination, a lunch and singsong back down the path marked the close of their magical, memorable and love-filled wedding in scenic Lynton and Lynmouth. “I would definitely recommend Lynton and Lynmouth as the perfect wedding spot!” Yingwen says enthusiastically, reeling from her personal and picturesque celebration.
