Becca and Sam met during their studies at the University of Surrey. The proposal followed on the day after Becca’s 30th birthday during a trip to Cornwall. “Becca thought we were staying at her parent’s cottage in St. Columb Minor, but when we pulled up to stay at the Headland Hotel I think she knew something was up!” says Sam. He produced a vintage Victorian ring during a sunset walk across Fistral Beach.
Given the shoreline setting of the proposal, it was entirely apt for the couple to throw a beachside wedding a short distance away from Fistral on Lusty Glaze Beach. Details such as the turquoise shade of the bridesmaid dresses and gents’ ties reflected the coastal setting, as did the laidback feel to the floral decorations and the ‘beach chic’ dress code for the guests.

Becca woke on the morning of the wedding in the chic surrounds of The Scarlet Hotel, where she busied herself with preparations before roaring off with her dad to Lusty Glaze in a classic car. It was a gorgeous sunny day and a friend of the couple greeted guests at the top of the beach steps with some accordion tunes.

The ceremony took place on the beachside veranda; the perfectly pitched tunes of Beach Boys Smile provided the soundtrack during the signing of the register and Becca and Sam’s good friend and poet Luke Kennard read an original poem he had written for the couple.

After the ceremony, the celebrations spilled onto the sun-kissed sands as guests tucked into Camel Valley and canapés, then proceeded to roll up their skirts and trousers and run into the surf!

A mouth-watering feast of dishes including local mussels, swordfish steak, lamb skewers and organic Cornish sausages lured the party back from the sands. They managed to snatch a brief paddling break between the main course and the cream tea dessert before heading back to the water’s edge for a spectacular sunset. “Paddling turned into full-blown skinny dipping as lots of the girls started stripping off (including Becca) and jumping into the sea,” says Sam.

After their beautiful day, the couple headed to Sicily for their honeymoon. Reflecting on the wedding, Sam comments: ““The whole day was brilliant but the weather and outstanding sunset topped it off.” And the newly-weds’ advice to others? “Our advice would be to really enjoy the ceremony. It goes so quickly but was probably the most special part of the day – well, that and the amazing sunset!”
