Swept Away

Coast-loving couple Logan and Andrew knew from the moment Andrew proposed on a deserted beach near Polzeath that they would hold their wedding by the sea. "True to Andrew's surfing roots and my love of the beach, we chose Lusty Glaze Beach for a windswept reception venue," explains Logan, whose childhood home lies just two minutes away from the scenic seaside spot.

A soft, summery palette of watercolour and cotton candy shades - from sea foam and peach to pink, lilac, coral and cream - carried through the details of the day. "We didn't have a theme but the colours reflect my personality and flower choice," explains Logan, for whom the flowers were a key feature of the day. The tables were decorated with seasonal Cornish blooms spilling from glass jars wrapped with lace and Logan carried a bouquet of peonies, Cornish sweet peas, roses and lamb's ears in soft cotton candy shades, which proved a gorgeous accessory for her strapless gown with its flowing lace train. Echoing the pretty palette, her bridesmaids wore floaty sea foam frocks.

Logan arrived at St Colan Church in a blue VW convertible Beetle for a ceremony brimming with personal touches. "I wrote one of the wedding readings, we chose songs personal to us to walk in and out of the church to and our puppy Otis even attended!" she recalls.

Guests were greeted by music from steel band Steel Appeal at Lusty Glaze, who brought a fun Caribbean vibe to the blustery day, while Logan and Andrew headed to their favourite spots along the coast for some dramatic photographs.

Opting for a relaxed wedding menu to reflect their personalities and the mood of the day, everyone feasted on a beach barbecue of fresh bream, sirloin steak and king prawn and lime skewers with salads. Logan's mum, who made carrot cakes in jars for dessert, also helped Logan make the American-style wedding cake, comprising tiers of sponge smothered in Italian meringue buttercream and fresh flowers.

A winning playlist from DJ Ant Durkin ensured the dance floor was packed with revellers all night long, while seaside-themed chips in newspaper cones and Cornish cream teas fuelled the antics. "We all danced into the evening and were treated to a surprise 'marryoke' video made by Andrew which was hilarious!" says Logan.

Reflecting on their wonderful, windswept day, Logan has some pearls of wisdom for couples in the throes on planning. "Be creative and make it personal. Our invitations, order of service and menus were all bespoke and we hand made our decorations and centrepieces. All these things injected personality and character into our wedding," she comments.

And cast aside those weather worries! "We didn't have ideal weather, but you can make it work for you with quirky umbrellas and amazing locations providing dramatic backdrops for photographs," advises Logan. "Try not to focus on the perfection of Instagram inspiration and instead focus on the here and now, and make it work to your advantage."
