Love in Lilac

Kirsty and Simon first met back in 2007 at Churston Court where Kirsty was the wedding and events manager and Simon was the head chef. After a romantic proposal at home on Christmas Eve in 2012 - complete with, as Kirsty recalls, "a log burner, champagne, a platinum ring, hand cut-out card words spelling 'will you marry me?' and one very nervous man" - the couple combined their expertise to plan a wedding lavished with delectable food and dazzling attention to detail.

Falling for the charms of The Horn of Plenty Country House Hotel, Kirsty and Simon chose to hire the house for the weekend to allow their families to freely enjoy the extended celebrations and sublime country vistas in privacy.

A gorgeous palette of soft pastels merged with a subtle vintage theme to create a spellbinding aesthetic. The flowers, delicate clusters of lilac, soft pink and cream, looked pretty as a picture against the antique rose tone of the bridesmaid dresses, while Kirsty looked stunning in a lace Pronovias gown.

After the personal and intimate ceremony, guests tucked into Mojitos, Peroni and canapes before some pre-wedding breakfast entertainment in the form of a falconry display.

Sitting down to dine in style on tables brimming with gorgeous detail, the luscious likes of lemongrass cured salmon with tiger prawns and goat's cheese was followed by lemon sole, Devon lamb and sumptuous desserts such as Bailey's and white chocolate cheesecake. They rounded off the fabulous belly fill with a spectacular 'sparkler exit', which proved to be one of the couple's favourite moments. "It makes for a great photograph and fantastic, fun feature and talking point for your day!" says Kirsty.

Giant cheese boards, port and a vintage popcorn machine kept appetites sated throughout the evening as guests grooved to the crowd-pleasing party numbers into the small hours.

Reflecting on her day, Kirsty shares her favourite moment. "Seeing my very handsome groom stood at the end of the aisle with tears in his eyes as he waited (patiently) for my arrival. I think that moment took our breath away and will remain in our thoughts forever." A very special performance provided another poignant memory. "Our gorgeous two-year-old daughter Alba-Rose stood tall in front of all our guests demanding their attention as she sang with all her heart 'Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star'," she recalls.

Kirsty is replete with advice for other couples currently in the planning process. "Patience is key! Be kind to each other, enjoy every minute (the day really does go too fast) and hire a truly talented photographer! One of the best parts is looking back and having those gorgeous memories in print."
