Isle of Dreams

Rebecca and Ben stole away to Burgh Island for an intimate wedding with their nearest and dearest

Following their seaside engagement during a holiday in Nice, Rebecca and Ben's wedding continued the waterside theme with an extended three-day celebration on beautiful Burgh Island. "We had visited Burgh Island many times together before the wedding, so it was always a special place for us," explains Rebecca. The renowned art deco hotel added a mood of timeless glamour to the occasion, which was matched by the couple's show-stealing fashion choices.

Donning a striking Vivienne Westwood gown accessorised with a vintage-inspired birdcage veil and Sophia Webster shoes, Rebecca looked every inch the leading lady, though briefly changed into her ever-practical Doc Martins for photos on the beach. In similarly head-turning style, Ben opted for an on-trend purple skinny suit with satin lapels completed with a classic pair of Chelsea boots.

The rest of the decor and day's events followed a simple yet symbolic pattern. Rebecca personalised her small spring flower bouquet with cream lace and brooches, while Ben secretly arranged for a local farmer to bring his tractor to the beach to make drawings in the sand in their honour. "There was a love heart with a bow and the Gordian Knot, the latter of which has no beginning and no end, and is symbolic for the marriage to last forever," explains Rebecca.

Having arrived the day before and given time on the morning of the wedding to explore the island at their leisure, guests congregated for the afternoon ceremony to live music from Perfect Vintage before enjoying canapes and cocktails ahead of afternoon tea.

The evening menu presented pigeon, fillet of beef and banana souffle, along with a surprise fireworks display - arranged by Rebecca - that signalled the close of the day's entertainment.

"The whole three days were just perfect for us," reveals Rebecca. "It was a small wedding - just 20 people who were family and friends. It was fun, and the Burgh Island Hotel staff were just fabulous."

Upon reflection, she's also keen to encourage couples not to compromise on their wedding day wish lists. "Know what you want, and if you can't find it, have it made. Don't settle for what you can get hold of, and enjoy." She continues: "Also, book a great photographer who takes photographs in a style you like."
