Real Wedding at The Kilbirnie

Maritime Romance

Sarah and Mark met through a mutual friend at a bar in St Austell when they were both seventeen and on Christmas Day in 2006, became engaged in their new home.

The couple's nuptials took place on a sunny day in June. The decor and details of the day followed an appropriately summery theme of marine, pale pink and ivory, incorporating butterflies as a continuous motif. The gorgeous array of blooms - arranged by Mark's mum, Linda - included gerberas, akito roses, Singapore orchids, freesias and spray carnations with diamante detail.

The groom's party arrived at St Paul's Church in Charlestown - Sarah's home parish - in a stretched American limousine, while sarah and her father rolled up  in a white vintage convertable Rolls Royce. "The marriage ceremony was perfect," comments Sarah. On leaving the church, the newlyweds were greeted by a special guard of honour provided by members of Mark's cricket club.

Sarah and Mark boarded the  'Kaskelot' ship in Charlestown Harbour for some unique photographs before setting off for The Kilbirnie Hotel in Newquay where guests tucked into prawn and avocado platter, raspberry sorbet, prime roast sirloin of beef and variety of gateau, tartlets and ice creams.

The delicious indulgence followed at the evening reception, where guests were welcomed with a chocolate fountain and buffet. "There was a great atmosphere," comments Sarah. "We had a three-foot balloon filled with small balloons and confetti above the dance floor, which the best man popped during our first dance."

Following their honeymoon in Olu Deniz, Turkey, Sarah reflects upon the day: “We had the most amazing wedding day, it was simply a dream come true, everything ran so smoothly and it was fantastic to see everybody enjoying the day. We are very lucky to have such great family and friends.” Their top tips for future brides and grooms? “Enjoy every minute of the day, it goes so quickly. Take time to choose a photographer and videographer as these memories will last forever.”
