A Celtic theme set the tone for Laurie and Rob’s wedding celebration. Having originally met through friends, Rob popped the question three years later and proceedings were swiftly under way for a beautifully bespoke affair.
Much of the style was self-directed and Laurie not only made all the decorations, favours and invitations, she even single-handedly designed her own wedding dress, which was then made by an auntie.
Lilac was the main thematic colour, encompassing a range of features from the flowers and bridesmaid dresses through to the décor, and much of the minutiae was gathered and crafted by friends and family members to ensure an individual and highly personal event.

Intending to be early, Laurie was over half an hour late for her walk down the aisle, arriving in style via horse and carriage with the bridesmaids following in wedding cars. Following the moving service, which also included the christening of their son, everyone congregated at a marquee at Rob’s parents’ home farm.

Cocktails greeted guests on arrival and children were treated to a bouncy castle whilst adults were entertained with casino tables, musicians and entertainer, Jack Glanville, in the evening.
A bountiful buffet, incorporating all from cooled meats and pasta to pavlova and cheesecake, was followed by another one later in the evening – giving everyone their belly fill of pasties and pies, which was cordially rounded off with dessert and a chocolate fountain.

Laurie and Rob forwent a honeymoon in favour of a family holiday a few months after the wedding. Their advice to other couples is to, “Enjoy the day – it goes by so quickly. Take lots of photos as, when the day is over, these (and of course memories and a dress that is probably never going to be worn again) is all that is left!”
