Keen surfers Lauren and Patrick bonded over a mutual passion for the beach and ocean living during their studies at Falmouth College of Arts.
After their nuptials in Hawaii, a marriage blessing on the silken sands of Porthtowan Beach, with its dramatic coastal backdrop, was entirely fitting for the ocean-loving duo.
“We were convinced that the weather was going to let us down. The days leading up to the wedding were terrible and it was forecast to be rain and high winds on our wedding day – not what you want for a beach wedding,” comments Lauren. “I was so relieved to wake up to a gorgeous sunny day in Porthtowan – apparently it was raining everywhere else!”

A vibrant colour scheme of yellow, turquoise and white complemented their beach theme perfectly. The couple was serenaded up the aisle by live band ‘Willie and the Bandits’ and they posed for photos in Lola, a stunning VW campervan from Strawberry Leisure.

A champagne reception and a feast of barbecue-marinated chicken, Cornish sausages and salad followed in the Boardroom at Blue. After the speeches, the indulgence continued with cupcakes and cocktails on the beach at sunset.

When the sun had slipped beneath the sea, the party revved up a gear in the Boardroom. “We partied the night away after our first dance,” reflects Lauren. “Later on, we snacked on mini Cornish pasties and released some 40 wish lanterns from the beach – notifying the coast guard first of course!”

Lauren has a few pointers to others: “Try not to get too carried away with it all when planning your wedding. Although there is so much you can do at a wedding, it’s important to stay true to yourselves as that will make the day so much more personal.” She adds, “Make sure you get the best photographer you can afford – when the vows have been made and the cake has been eaten, your photos will be all that you have left to remember your special day.”
