Real Wedding at The Widemouth Manor

Walking on Sunshine

A meeting at a mutual friend’s party led to Jill and Andy’s first date. Nine and a half years later, after having lived together in their own house and travelled across New Zealand and Central America, they were waist high in snow in the French Alps when Jill accepted Andy’s proposal.

The couple opted for a colour scheme of sage green and dusky pink, which proved a chic palette for their delicate floral arrangements. After the ceremony at St Andrew’s Church, the newlyweds stole a few moments to themselves at the top of the church tower. “We overlooked the village and took a moment to enjoy what was happening,” says Jill.

Set on the cliffs of Widemouth Bay with views across the Atlantic Ocean, The Widemouth Manor made a stunning reception venue. “The weather was great and we made the most of the verandas and the stunning vistas.”

The party tucked into a menu of smoked salmon and crevettes with a horseradish, cream and lime dressing followed by thyme and garlic roasted local sirloin of beef with sun-blushed cherry tomatoes, wild mushrooms and tarragon jus. The feast was rounded off with Andy’s favourite dessert: profiteroles served with Chantilly cream and a rich Cointreau chocolate sauce.

The evening disco came with a personalised twist. Having asked guests to contribute their ‘must-have’ songs, the newlyweds laughed and danced the night away with their family and friends.

“Everything from the flower arrangements and classy décor to the subtle lighting and gourmet food was perfect,” says Jill. “We wanted to be able to enjoy the special moments again as the day felt so fleeting. Fortunately our photographers captured these moments in a style perfectly suited to us and we now have a stunning collection of images that will help us relive our day forever.

In terms of advice for other couples, Jill and Andy suggest: “Enjoy everything about the process from the proposal to the planning and the day itself. If nothing else you will have some great stories to tell when it is all over!”
