Real Wedding at St. Agnes Church

Down By The Sea

A mutual passion for the surf united beach lovers Jasmine and Gareth, whose utterly unique proposal carried the theme of the day. Having originally met in a bar, it wasn’t long before they realised that their love for the deep sea extended toward each other, providing a poignant place for their Porthtowan proposal.

It was just the two of them out back at the Flat Rocks’ break and Jasmine was paddling back toward Gareth as he unveiled an engagement ring attached to a fishing float that he had concealed in a waterproof bag in his wetsuit. “It was the most perfect way that someone could have proposed to me,” Jasmine recalls.

She awoke on the wedding day to discover a gift from her fiancé in the form of a bottle of pink champagne alongside a new surfboard shaped by Gareth and his friend Dave.

The groom’s party went for a surf at North Fistral whilst Jasmine and her maid of honour did their hair and make up at the apartment.

Following a spring theme for their March wedding at St Agnes church, the local spring flowers created a natural yellow and purple scheme that was complemented by the bridesmaids’ buttercup gowns. At the church, friends Hannabeth and Ben sang an acoustic set before the newlyweds left under a guard of honour from the couples’ underwater hockey team holding their hockey sticks.

After photos at Wheal Coates, the pair headed to the reception at the New Harbour Restaurant. Delicious dishes on the menu included fish cakes, chicken soup and a goats cheese tartlet followed by roast pollock, roast beef or vegetable risotto. A personalised play list provided the entertainment for the wedding breakfast and the choreographed first dance, whereupon their friend’s band took to the stage.

A surfing trip to Costa Rica was extended by a week due to the volcanic ash cloud, where the pair rented a car and worked their way up the west coast – a fitting way to round off such an oceanic affair.
