A daring kiss sparked romance between Helen and Dan on a night out. “We've known each other for years through mutual friends,” comments Helen. “We got together on a drunken night out. He dared me to kiss him after a long night of dance-offs (which I won!) and the rest is history.”
Dan orchestrated a romantic proposal during an anniversary holiday in a Scandinavian wood cabin at Finlake in South Devon. While Helen was upstairs getting ready for an evening out, Dan busied himself downstairs preparing to pop the question. “He lined the floor with a pathway of candles and was down on one knee at the end. Our favourite song was playing in the background,” she remembers.

The pair chose a quintessentially Cornish colour scheme of black and gold, accompanied by a butterfly motif, for their celebration at Lostwithiel Golf and Country Club.

Waking to beautiful sunshine, the girls enjoyed an excitable morning of preparations and champagne at the venue, before Dan and his groomsmen arrived in a Bentley for some pre-ceremony photos.

The Garden Room was the setting for the ceremony, which featured readings from the sisters of both the bride and groom. Various refreshments kept guests happy while photos were taken and the wedding breakfast was served alongside tearful yet triumphant speeches. Guests tucked into leek and potato soup, roast beef and Brie and mushroom Wellington. The dessert comprised a choice of profiteroles or vanilla cheesecake.

The couple’s DJ friend Alex Darling provided the evening entertainment. “The room was so full, people could hardly move!” recalls Helen.

She shares her highlights: “The weather was amazing, it was probably the best day of the year. We had the most wonderful day with the best people to share it with.”

Her advice for other couples busily planning their weddings is simple: “Try not to get too stressed about all the planning, and concentrate on enjoying every moment because it really does go so quickly.”
