Thanks to Nick’s friendship with Amy’s brother – and a little help from some Cupid-playing pals – love blossomed between the pair. Nick proposed when Amy was six months pregnant with their son, Harry James.
“We decided quite early on we didn't want a 'normal' wedding,” says Amy. “I could picture what I thought would be amazing and with help from my Mum, it was made possible!” With their hearts set on a wedding in Cornwall, they set about planning their celebration from their home in the Midlands.
Surrounded by idyllic Cornish countryside, Trelow Farmhouse made the perfect setting for their bohemian summer garden party. “There were fairy lights, candles and daisies everywhere, and my bouquet was fresh flowers out of the garden.”

“Nick and I spent the night before the wedding at the farmhouse. I wanted to wake up on our wedding day with our son Harry, and get excited together!” However, the couple wanted to retain one traditional element: “We decided we couldn't see each other getting ready. We had to walk around with our eyes closed in case we saw each other!”

As a surprise, Amy’s parents had arranged for a 1960s VW camper van to transport her to Padstow Parish Church. “Dad and I had an emotional journey to the church and it was lovely to spend those precious moments together.” Keen for their nearest and dearest to play a special role in the wedding, Amy’s brother Dan played Eva Cassidy's ‘Songbird’ on the piano as she entered the church and her step dad Nick chose a touching reading. “The ceremony was perfect; Father Chris Malkinson did us proud.”

The couple stopped at Trevone Bay for photographs before the party kicked off at the farmhouse. The atmosphere was relaxed and celebratory as family and close friends indulged in wine, pork baps made by Amy’s step dad and scrumptious cupcakes made by her mum to a soundtrack of summer sounds and chilled music.

The couple spent their wedding night at The Old Custom House in Padstow and then spent the remainder of the week at Trelow Farmhouse with family and friends. “It was the best week ever!” reflects Amy. “Coupled with the birth of our son, it was the most amazing day and we are so very lucky to have such wonderful families who made everything possible.”

She has some wise words of advice for other couples: “Do what you want and not what you think you should do. Your wedding day is the most amazing day of your life – enjoy it!”
