Pre-Wedding Shoot Inspiration

Wedding styling: seaside pretty

Steal some precious moments with your soulmate at the water's edge. Wed falls for the allure of a pre-wedding shoot on Devon's beguiling coastline

If you're considering a pre-wedding shoot, this dreamy coastal session might just convince you. "The beauty of a pre-wedding shoot is that it's a great opportunity for you to get to know your photographer and get used to being in front of the camera," advises wedding stylist Elle Winsor-Grime of Inspire Hire (inspire-hire.co.uk). "It's also an opportunity to spend some quality time together during the busy wedding planning process."

Then of course there's the beautiful professional images you'll have to treasure. "You'll have quality photos you can frame, give to your family or even use as your save the dates," suggests Elle. "Pre-wedding shoots are the norm in some countries, where wedding days are long and busy and it's often not feasible to get away for 'couple portraits'."

Elle coordinated and styled this pre-wedding shoot for her sister, Isabel, and her fiance, Alex, who are looking forward to their country garden wedding later this year. A shoot on a secluded corner of Devon's coastline afforded them a special opportunity to capture some images of a contrasting and equally enchanting landscape.

Drawing on the beguiling backdrop, Elle used a dreamy blend of seaglass and seashells, blooms in shades of cream, pink and peach, and an abundance of foliage to style the shoot. "I asked Isabel and Alex to write down 'ten reasons why they want to marry one another' in secret before they came to Devon. Oh Wonder Calligraphy transformed these emails into lovely mementos that were waiting for them when they arrived on the beach," she explains. "They sat at a sweetheart table while eating their engagement cake and drinking gin and tonics: their favourite drink to share."

Elle also created a bouquet with sea-blue ribbon trailing in the breeze. "It can feel strange to have a bouquet thrust into your hands on your wedding day. It's great to practise holding it to get an idea of the size and style that you want for the real thing."
