Wedding Reception Styling in Cornwall and Devon

Wedding styling: ethereal opal

Muted, reflective tones and exquisite detailing combine in this swoon-worthy opalescent wedding scene...

"The inspiration behind this shoot was drawn from the precious Opal Stone," says photographer Tara Statton. "Its subtle and understated beauty and its reflective, iridescent qualities. I love its simple white appearance, that reveals a multitude of tones such as pale pinks, soft blues, purples and yellows when the light hits it. I hoped to portray this delicate spectrum of colours throughout the shoot; from the flowers to the props, to the dresses."

Every detail was chosen to this effect, from a shimmering white sequin crop top to cut glass candle sticks and iridescent wine glasses - all emphasised by the beautiful blank-canvas-of-a-backdrop, Upton Barn, where minimalistic white walls, wooden floors, beams and natural light floods into the dreamiest of spaces.

"I wanted the shoot to have a very light, feminine and almost ethereal feel to it. When choosing props and styling, we focused on soft textures and fabrics such as the beautiful plant dyed silk ribbons and runners by Border Cottage Flowers and torn edged watercolour stationery by De Winton Paper Co," says Tara.

Simple oak tables were styled with classic ornate silverware, white plates, napkins and iridescent glassware, scattered with succulents and terrariums containing plants, precious stones and geodes supplied by Keeping it Vintage. A large floral cloud design was suspended above, with eco friendly and organic floral trends from Cottage Flowers incorporated into the aesthetic, including muted silver and neutrally toned foliage and a large floral wreath suspended as a statement backdrop for couples to say 'I Do' under.

Even the sweet treats and statement cake were designed to complement the theme, with to-die-for confections from Claire Makes Cakes Claire Makes Cakes adorning the opal-inspired dessert table: a trio wedding cakes complete with edible silver leaf and fresh florals, white chocolate and lemon curd macrons, and cinnamon iced doughnuts.

"I really enjoyed working with the beautiful handmade pieces by AbideMaids. The first outfit was an ivory lace top and a full length flowing crepe skirt in a dusky rose colour. It was followed by an ivory sequinned crop top with a floaty duck egg blue tulle skirt. This conveyed our colour scheme perfectly, also reflecting the modern and contemporary bride or bridesmaid through the use of separates, delicate fabrics and style," adds Tara. And with handmade silver eco jewellery from Clare Elizabeth Kilgour along with gorgeous pink toned make-up and soft curls and plaits completing the ultra romantic and feminine look, the model seamlessly blended into her pearly surrounds.
