Having been together since the tender age of 18, Laura and Dave maintained a long-distance relationship throughout their university years before finally tying the knot nine years later.
A low-key, country-themed affair saw Trevenna as the perfect backdrop to their blush-coloured nuptials. With exclusive use of the venue for the entire weekend, the couple staged a barbecue with bubbly for 40 guests on the Friday evening, allowing all to relax and mingle before the big day.
The next day, guests gathered around the small arbour for an “incredibly beautiful, intimate ceremony” as the sweet smell of pink and ivory peonies with ranunculi and roses wafted through the air.

A Pimm’s reception with canapés allowed guests to further bask in the glorious sunshine before the wedding breakfast was served under an adjoining marquee. A mouthwatering menu was created and cooked by Richard Nicholls at Trevenna, where goats cheese mousse with red onion chutney or Cornish mackerel in thyme and ginger butter was followed by Cornish neck of lamb or salmon and roasted fennel. Dessert was either a delectable duo of chocolate mousse or baked raspberry cheesecake. “All the food was locally sourced and absolutely delicious,” Laura comments.

The day was personalised in a number of ways. The two best men gave a laugh-out-loud speech accompanied by a slideshow of various photos from Dave's past. Flipbooks of the images were placed on each table for additional amusement.

The couple’s iPod provided the background music for the ceremony and the reception; in the evening, guests partied to live band, The Talent, and feasted on cupcakes made by a bridesmaid. “A particular memory was being in the middle of a surging crowd stomping around to the band's rendition of ‘Five Hundred Miles’ by The Proclaimers: priceless!” recalls Laura.

After the wedding, Laura and Dave spent a few days of indulgence at the Dart Marina Spa in Dartmouth. They are in the process of planning a break next year in the Caribbean.

They are eager to offer advice to future bride and grooms. In particular, they highlight that it’s worth investing in “an amazing photographer – worth every penny! An awesome band, again, is worth every penny.”

“Remember to take advice from your venue – it's obviously important to keep your own ideas and individuality, but the team at the venue are in the best position to advise whether something will work or not. The attention to detail at Trevenna was incredible – nothing was too much to ask for.”
