Embracing the influences of two lands close to their hearts – Cornwall and New Zealand – Georgie and Nick’s moorland wedding was a beautifully bespoke occasion.
Having met in Penzance, the couple jetted off to New Zealand for an extended stay, which culminated in a sunset proposal on a Rarotonga beach. They returned to their home county to marry surrounded by their family and friends.
Nick’s Curnow family tartan inspired the Cadbury’s purple and silver colour scheme, which blended with kiwi twists for a personalised and stylish result. The black bridesmaid dresses were punctuated with Curnow tartan flowers while woven flax flowers from New Zealand made a distinctive alternative to fresh blooms, the purple and silver creations perfectly complementing Georgie’s dress and Nick’s kilt.

The stunning platinum dress, however, caused a drama in the run-up to the wedding: “I couldn’t find any shoes to match the dress colour. With just two days to go, I used car spray paint on my comfy old bridesmaid shoes and it worked a treat!”

The whole event was very much a DIY affair. Georgie made the stationery, favours, playlists, wedding cake and cupcakes herself, while a team of family and friends pitched in to make the stunning decorations, from the pretty stuffed hearts and bunting to the place names and the table names.

The 11.30am ceremony was a beautiful, personal and emotional affair; the couple exchanged self-penned vows and chose music with special meaning: Moby’s ‘Love Should’ and Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’. “My favourite moment was walking down the stairs feeling very special, feeling the love, seeing the decorations for the first time and how all the colours, tartans and dresses went together! And seeing my handsome husband-to-be of course!” reflects Georgie.
The couple stole a few moments to themselves before photographs were taken while guests supped on delicious homemade sloe vodka, lemonade, mint and strawberry.

A marquee from Absolute Canvas was the setting for the wedding breakfast where guests feasted on homemade pork and chicken liver pate with onion marmalade to start, followed by chicken breast wrapped in bacon and fondant potatoes, sautéed savoy cabbage and baby carrots with Cornish blue cheese sauce. The dessert was lemon meringue pie and clotted cream.

The heavens opened and gale force winds raged during the heartfelt speeches and into the evening. But it made little difference to the revellers who indulged in a hog roast, pasties and cheese platters, broke into a repertoire of traditional Cornish songs and threw some shapes on the dance floor - a few even drunk ‘Proper job’ ale through a didgeridoo!

Georgie has a word of warning for others: “Even though I read it, I still didn’t do it - professional video is a must!" She adds," An early ceremony means the day doesn’t go too quickly and, by opting for a Thursday, the weekend becomes an extended celebration.” The newly weds are honeymooning in Bali on the way back to New Zealand, which they plan to make their home.
