Wedding at St. Michael's Hotel and Spa

Pampered By The Sea

Originally classmates at primary school, Helen and Lee reconnected three years ago via a social networking site and Helen soon moved to Lee's RAF base in Swindon.

They chose St Michael’s Hotel and Spa as the setting for their English country garden themed wedding, “We love the relaxed beachside vibe of the hotel”, comments Helen.

Starting the wedding day in style, Helen enjoyed some pampering in the spa before donning her beautiful dress customised with a corsage, which was in keeping with the fuchsia pink colour scheme. She and her bridesmaids held bouquets of sweet peas and peonies, which spilled out of metal buckets on the tables.

After the ceremony, drinks and canapés of mini scones with strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream, Teriyaki chicken skewers and mini crab cakes on the lawn were followed by photos in the gardens and then onto the sun-kissed sands of Gyllyngvase beach.

Guests dined on Cornish asparagus with balsamic onions, mixed leaves, Cornish blue cheese and toasted walnuts, roast chicken supreme with prosciutto, mead jus and pommes dauphinoise and meringue with berries and lemon cream. DJ Kris Kool played plenty of the couple's favourite ‘80s dance tracks during the evening disco and a buffet of Cornish cocktail pasties and savoury scones with herb cheese filled bellies for all of the happy revellers.

Beyond the pasties and cream, there were several other Cornish twists. "For the favours the men had bottles of scrumpy and the ladies received handmade Trevarno soaps.”

"Create a day as personal as possible,” Helen advises other brides and grooms-to-be. "I handmade the invitations and lots of other elements of the day. One of our best ideas was a basketful of gorgeous multi-coloured pashminas for ladies to help themselves to. It was lovely to see people sitting on them on the lawn and they were perfect for our impromptu trip to the beach in the evening when everyone went over to light a sky lantern each and make a wish!"
