It was a memorable way to see in 2011. Having met on New Year’s Eve in a Plymouth bar, Danielle and Chris tied the knot on the same date five years later.

Danielle and her bridesmaids spent the night before the wedding in the elegant setting of St Elizabeth’s House where they enjoyed making their preparations in style. An opulent colour scheme of red and cream – a fitting choice for the season – was carried in the bridesmaid dresses, reception décor, the wedding cake and grooms wear. Danielle also carried a classically romantic bouquet of red roses.

The couple exchanged vows in St Mary’s Church in Plympton before proceeding onto St Elizabeth’s House. Flautist Ruth Ballantyne lent some stirring sounds to the champagne reception.

The speeches preceded the wedding breakfast. The menu choices included chicken parfait, smoked salmon or tomato soup for starter and roast breast of chicken, fillet of beef wellington or mushroom ravioli for the main course, rounded off with lemon tart or chocolate fudge cake. Decorated in shades of red and cream, the table names were inspired by landmarks in New York, the couple’s honeymoon destination.

Elvis Presley’s rendition of ‘I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You’ made a classic soundtrack to Danielle and Chris’s first dance; singer Dave Delley then performed a set in the run-up to the New Year. “We popped a bottle at midnight and all the flashing champagne glasses came out for our guests,” says Danielle.

“I loved every minute of it. It was a great way to start the new year,” she enthuses. “I would advise other brides and grooms to just enjoy every minute as the day goes so fast.”

For Danielle, it was a huge relief that her mum was there to take part in the celebrations. “After helping me plan the wedding, we were very concerned that my mum wouldn't be there as she had been on a waiting list for a transplant for the previous three years. She actually had her transplant three weeks after the wedding and she is getting on really well.”
