Wedding at Polhawn Fort

Seashells and Showgirls

Kelly and Julie were together for three years before getting engaged whilst holidaying in Turkey in 2005. Their shared love of the beach led them to tie the knot in a weekend of beach themed celebrations in the stunning setting of Polhawn Fort.

Seashells were prominent, from the seashell and pearl cake to Kelly’s handmade confetti cones decorated with shells and starfish. Seashells were even scattered in Kelly’s bouquet, amongst white roses and purple vanda orchids. There was a moving tribute to Julie’s brother Paul, who passed away three years ago, comprising a floral arrangement with photographs and a candle, which burned throughout the day. Kelly comments, “It was our way to include Paul in our special day”.

Kelly walked down the aisle wearing an ivory gown to the stirring sound of John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ performed by Bianca from ‘Acoustic Duo’. After the “short but loving and meaningful” ceremony, Kelly and Julie enjoyed summer Pimm’s and canapés in the sunshine, before venturing onto the beach for photos with their dogs, Koja and Boe.

Guests dined on a variety of dishes provided by The Round Kitchen, including Italian meatballs, slow-cooked belly pork, whole baked field mushrooms and rolled chicken breast. Dessert was kept simple and sweet with individual homemade meringue shells, served with a mixed berry compote and Chantilly cream.

During the first dance to Ike and Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’, guests enjoyed a glamorous surprise when four showgirls, dressed in skimpy silver outfits and red feather headdresses, burst in. Celebrations continued into the night, with local band ‘Red Vegas’ providing the tunes and a spectacular firework display for a finale.

“We had the wedding of our dreams,” Kelly comments. “All the people who helped to make this day a reality worked so hard for us and we thank them with all our hearts.”

She has some wise words for other couples in the throes of the planning process, “Provide arts and crafts for child guests to keep them entertained.” She adds, “Have the day filmed. It was a last minute decision but we were so glad we did as there are so many parts we would have missed.”
