Janet and Mark met on a dating website in October 2008 and, from day one, they knew that something special was happening. Within a month, the couple decided to get married. “We still can't get over the fact that we seem to have been destined to spend the rest of our lives together, having met in such a random way,” says Janet.
Having both been married before, the couple decided against the ‘all-singing all-dancing’ type of celebration they may have opted for in their younger days and went for a simple but intimate theme.
In the morning, the small wedding party set off from The Duke of Cornwall Hotel in Plymouth in a minibus via the Torpoint Ferry. “This provided an atmosphere of jollity and togetherness as well as an exciting nautical adventure for those that were strangers to Plymouth,” comments Janet.

The ceremony at Mount Edgcumbe House took place before the couple’s grown-up children, their partners and their parents, who all enjoyed music from a local harpist as they entered the venue.

The couple’s daughters, who were the attendants, chose their own dresses and Janet wore an emerald green silk cocktail dress with black accessories and a white bouquet. The absence of formality put everyone at ease and the freedom allowed each guest to put their own individual stamp on the day. Not wanting to leave the boys out, Janet and Mark made their sons their witnesses.

The Royal Corinthian Yacht Club was the setting for the wedding breakfast. To their delight, the February sun shone beautifully and the couple took advantage of the glorious weather and incredible views across Plymouth Sound to pose for more photographs.

Due to work commitments, Janet and Mark were forced to postpone their honeymoon – a fortnight in California and Hawaii – until April. Unfortunately, a certain cloud of volcanic ash scuppered their plans and they weren’t able to fly. The day itself was perfect, however, and Janet and Mark strongly advise other couples not to lose sight of the real reason for marrying one another: “A wedding is fleeting and temporary whereas a marriage should be forever. Treat them both in the proportion they deserve.”
