Katherine and Dan’s wedding was exactly as they hoped it would be: a relaxed and intimate wedding celebration by the sea with a small group of family and close friends.
The couple lived in the same halls of residence during their first year at Cardiff University, and began their romance in the second year. After completing their studies, Katherine moved to Dan’s home county of Gloucestershire to be with him. After ten years together, a house and two cats, Dan popped the question and the date was set for just four months later.
“We didn’t want the day to be planned too carefully and, with only 31 guests, the day ran smoothly,” says Katherine.

Their colour scheme of champagne gold and white – expressed in beautiful style via white lilies, a medley of seasonal flowers and green foliage – complemented the summery beachside setting of Bedruthan Steps Hotel.

The relaxed vibe began from the word go. On the morning of the wedding, the girls lounged in the spa and supped on champagne while the boys went for a bracing sea swim followed by a game of tennis (in tight ‘80s attire!).

The ceremony took place before ocean views and, right on cue, the sun came out as the party spilled outside for bubbly and photographs on the lawn. The meal was sumptuous; guests eagerly tucked into a prawn cocktail starter followed by roast beef with all the trimmings and Eton mess for dessert. In the evening, an appetising array of cheese platters, Cornish pasties, desserts and wedding cake were served.

An acoustic guitarist provided mellow sounds as the sun sunk beneath the horizon. After a wander down to the beach for some atmospheric photographs, the party moved to the children’s play area where the bride, groom and pals hit the ball pool and enjoyed some impressive displays on the assault course!

“It was such a magical day and wonderful to be surrounded by our nearest and dearest,” the couple reflects. “We didn’t want it to end.”

“Keep it simple,” is Katherine’s advice to those in the midst of wedding planning. “Do not compromise on what you really want and ensure you take time to talk to one another and enjoy the day.” She adds, “Film it. We nearly didn’t do it and we are so pleased we did as we can relive the ceremony (which went by in a blur of emotion) and the speeches.”
