Honeymoons in Cornwall and Devon

Honeymoons - Europe

Honeymoon Hotspots

Jet off for a fix of romance, adventure and relaxation. Wed has traversed Europe and northern Africa to pick out the dreamiest – and trendiest – destinations for some short haul together time…

Malta
Slap bang in the middle of the Mediterranean, the tropical archipelago of Malta oozes honeymoon appeal. A glorious medley of sunshine, beaches, ancient historical sites and an effortlessly chilled vibe will leave both the beach bum and culture vulture in you supremely satisfied. Enjoy a relaxing few days exploring a landscape littered with temples, tombs and baroque palaces, and unwind on the beach or amidst the heavenly climes of a luxury hotel.

DO Wander the fortified city of Valletta and drink in the fascinating fusion of architecture, idyllic gardens and breathtaking views across the coastline. Stop off at St John’s Co-Cathedral and marvel at its ornate splendour. Take a trip to nearby island Gozo where the beaches are gloriously sandy, the pace of life even slower and the scuba diving amongst the best in the Med. Catch a glimpse of Mount Etna, and lap up the charms of ancient cities and rolling countryside on a day trip to Sicily, which is only 90 minutes away by boat.

SLEEP Prepare to feel very special indeed when you check into The Palace in Sliema. The five star boutique hotel is the last word in luxury with its delectable cuisine, sumptuous accommodation (choose one of the deliciously distinctive Designer Suites), a rooftop sun deck and infinity pool with panoramic views across Valletta.

Venice
You want romance? You got it. As all your preconceived visions of canals, gondolas and baroque architecture unfold before your eyes, prepare to fall hook, line and sinker for this utterly unique world on water. Spend a seductive few days wandering the labyrinthine streets and feasting on the city’s vibrant culture and history, indulging in the scrumptious cuisine and, of course, some Italian-style loving.

DO Jump aboard a vaporetto and take in the magnificent buildings and elaborate architecture as it snakes its way along the Grand Canal. Take a day trip out to one of the nearby islands: explore the ruins of Torcello or the colourful houses, lace-making and fishing culture of Burano. Wander St Mark’s Square at night and prepare for some seriously dewy-eyed moments as the serenades of the classical musicians, the ambience of the twinkling lights and the heady atmosphere of possibly the world’s most romantic setting enraptures you in its magic. Finish each day in style by tucking into an Italian feast at a candlelit table and wash it all down with a bottle or two of Prosecco.

SLEEP Bed down in a luxury suite at intimate boutique hotel, The Charming House. Located in the tranquil Dorsoduro quarter, each boudoir is typified by comfort, elegance and contemporary style – a beautiful base to sup on the delights of Venice.

Riad El Mansour, Marrakech

Marrakech
The heart of Morocco entrances its visitors with its exotic cocktail of sunshine, affordable decadence and utterly bewitching culture. Nestled amidst the foothills of the Atlas Mountains on the edge of the Sahara Desert, couples seeking something a little different from a beach-based honeymoon are opting for the sensuous charms of a trip to Marrakech. Wander the labyrinthine streets, relax under the African sun and dine out on the scents, sights and sounds of this truly enchanting city

DO Lose yourself amidst the hustle and bustle of the souks, hunt for some super chic finds and engage in the infamous art of Moroccan haggling. Take some time out in the peaceful climes of the Atlas Mountains, drink in the breathtaking scenery and explore the Berber villages. Hit Jemaa El Fna at night and witness a carnival for the senses. The setting of the world’s largest open-air eaterie, expect to be entertained by snake charmers, storytellers, magicians and dancers as you sample some Moroccan delicacies.

SLEEP
Enjoy the charms of a beautiful bolthole without the pitfalls of a hefty price tag. Located close to Jemaa El Fna, Riad El Mansour is an intimate boutique hotel which offers a heady mix of laidback charm, Moroccan inspired interiors and the luxuries of a spa, hammam, gym and Jacuzzi.

Budapest
Wrap up on a winter break and experience the magic of an historic city blanketed in snow. Or stroll the city streets and languish by the Danube during the heat of summer. Either way, the Hungarian capital hits the spot as a romantic honeymoon destination – and word is catching on. With a fusion of spectacular architecture both old and new, mouth-watering cuisine, a thermal spa culture and a night skyline to send shivers down the most cynical of spines, Budapest is one tantalising setting to revel in the first throes of wedded bliss.

DO Hit the Gellért Spa. Budapest is a hotbed of hot spa action and the thermal baths located in the art nouveau Hotel Gellért make an atmospheric and historic setting to kick back and relish the healing waters with the locals.
Discover Castle Hill and soak up the sheer splendour of the buildings – Mátyás Church and the Buda Royal Palace are highlights. Get your camera at the ready for breathtaking views across the Danube at Fishermen’s Bastion. Devour a veritable feast and entertainment courtesy of swash-buckling knights, belly dancers and lute players at Sir Lancelot Medieval Restaurant in Pest. And no visit to the city is complete without a stroll along the river at night.

SLEEP
If you simply can’t get enough of the spa scene, stay at the Hotel Danubius Health Spa Resort on St Margaret’s Island and lap up the relaxing and rejuvenating effects of those warm waters morning, noon and night. If you do manage to emerge, explore the car-free island with its medieval ruins and open-air theatre – a truly enchanting experience in the snow.
